Help kids like Meghan thrive at school
Meet Meghan. She’s seven. When she was five, she was diagnosed with leukemia. A few weeks later the pandemic hit. That meant Meghan and her brother Ryan had to home-school and learn online. Learning online is tough on a young child. After two years of treatment and isolation, Meghan was ready to return to school, but the last time she’d been inside a classroom was in kindergarten. Now she going into grade two! Meghan was scared. She’d missed so many social moments and milestones.
You can help. Whether it’s cancer-related learning issues, returning-to-school jitters or simply falling behind due to missed school, our Education Support Program helps kids affected by cancer get the support they need to learn and grow.
In the 2022-2023 school year, nearly 190 Alberta children will be diagnosed with cancer, and in classrooms across the province, there will be more empty desks where a child with cancer should be.
This September, as the leaves fall and children return to school, please remember children affected by cancer. Help them get the educational support they need as they fight for their lives and fight to catch up at school.
