Pink tutus and feathery boas \u2014 that\u2019s the Bye Felicia team. Or the Bedrock Rockers, a.k.a. the Flintstones, driving in their stone-age car. This is Kindle Pursuit and anything goes.&nbsp; <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nfirst annual Kindle Pursuit brought together hundreds of competitors, sponsors,\ndonors and spectators in the fight against childhood cancer on September 8.\nPresented by <a href=\"https:\/\/tricohomes.com\/\">Trico\nHomes<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iheartradio.ca\/cjay92\">CJAY 92<\/a>, the Amazing\nRace-style event challenged 22 teams of four to raise a minimum of $1,000\nbefore taking on a series of obstacles at Camp Kindle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a continental breakfast and a series of warm-up exercises, the teams and their Cheering Squads listened intently as Jack Godefroy, the 2018 Kids Cancer Care spokeskid, shared his cancer story. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBy the end of this journey, I will have gone through 1,224 days of treatment,\u201d said Jack. \u201cThat is all of grade six, all of grade seven, all of grade eight and half of grade nine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You could almost feel a collective shift in perspective. Jack\u2019s message had hit home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kidscancercare.ab.ca\/annual-report-2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Jack-photos-brangwyn-jones_29963388627_o-opt.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1193\" width=\"508\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kidscancercare.ab.ca\/annual-report-2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Jack-photos-brangwyn-jones_29963388627_o-opt-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kidscancercare.ab.ca\/annual-report-2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Jack-photos-brangwyn-jones_29963388627_o-opt-500x334.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 508px) 100vw, 508px\" \/><figcaption><em>Jack Godefroy, the 2018 Kids Cancer Care spokeskid, shares his cancer journey.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen this new event came out, I was eager to get a team together,\u201d says Ryan Murray, operations manager at Trico Homes and team captain of a team called In PURSUIT for Happiness. \u201cIt was a great team building experience, but my favourite part of the day was hearing the story of that young man who shared his journey. You don\u2019t get to hear that every day.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ryan\u2019s team raised $12,000, making them the highest fundraising team. Their reward was a ride on the zip line at Camp Kindle. The second highest fundraising team was The Muppets, a family battling childhood cancer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trico\nHomes is a long-time supporter of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kidscancercare.ab.ca\/\">Kids Cancer Care<\/a> and Ryan\nhas been involved with the foundation for about six years, participating in\nother fundraisers such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kidscancercare.ab.ca\/get-involved\/fundraise\/shave-your-lid-for-a-kid\">Shave\nYour Lid for a Kid<\/a>\u00ae and The Don, Joanne and the Coach Golf a Kid to\nCamp tournament. Our team was out to win, but it was definitely\nenjoyable and we shared lots of laughs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A\nfierce team of childhood cancer survivors, called the BRATS, was also among the\nteams competing. \u201cIt\u2019s not a\ntough mudder and it\u2019s not a Spartan race either,\u201d said Brad Rains. \u201cIt\u2019s a\nchallenge course that is uniquely Camp Kindle and it\u2019s something everyone\nshould try.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The BRATS is an acronym based\non the first letter of each of their first names \u2014 Brad, Adam, Taylor and\nSamantha. All former spokeskids, the BRATS grew up going to Kids Cancer Care\ncamps together. Now young adults with careers on the go, the BRATS give back as\nvolunteers, spokespersons and fundraising partners. Adam Verheyde took the\nprize for highest fundraising individual, bringing in $3,600. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over\na two-hour period, the teams of four raced through a series of obstacles\nstationed throughout Camp Kindle. Think giant slingshots, archery, fire making,\nwall climbing, water bucket challenges and rubber ducky rescue missions. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adorned in pink boas and pink tutus, the Bye Felicias took the prize for fastest team. The Bedrock Rockers took first prize for most spirited team. Lugging that stone-age vehicle around for the entire race demanded real commitment and a healthy dose of team spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"401\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kidscancercare.ab.ca\/annual-report-2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Flintstones-2-photos-brangwyn-jones_31027262008_o-opt-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kidscancercare.ab.ca\/annual-report-2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Flintstones-2-photos-brangwyn-jones_31027262008_o-opt-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.kidscancercare.ab.ca\/annual-report-2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Flintstones-2-photos-brangwyn-jones_31027262008_o-opt-1-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.kidscancercare.ab.ca\/annual-report-2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Flintstones-2-photos-brangwyn-jones_31027262008_o-opt-1-500x334.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption><em>The Bedrock Rockers took top prize for best team spirit and almost took out the finish line.<\/em><br><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe\nactivities were fun and outrageous,\u201d laughs Ryan. \u201cRunning up that big hill to\nthe low ropes was definitely not effortless.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Up\nat the low ropes, the teams completed challenges such as the Queen\u2019s Finger, Mission\nImpossible and the Shrinking Island. Camp Kindle staff designed all the challenges\nand have developed a brand new set of challenges for <a href=\"https:\/\/kidscancercare.akaraisin.com\/ui\/kindlepursuit2019\">Kindle Pursuit\n2019<\/a>, which takes place on September 7. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>JD\nof CJAY 92 emceed the event, wrapping things up with plenty of time to chillax with\na cold one in the beer garden and a delicious BBQ lunch, compliments of Keith\nShepherd of ReDo It Renovations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\naddition to raising funds, another goal of Kindle Pursuit is to introduce <a href=\"https:\/\/campkindle.ca\/\">Camp Kindle<\/a> and its\nstate-of-the-art facilities to new audiences. During the shoulder season, Kids\nCancer Care rents the camp to corporate and community groups. Kindle Pursuit\ngives new groups a chance to test drive the facilities. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to your support in its first year, Kindle Pursuit raised over $90,000. The fundraising goal for Kindle Pursuit 2019 is over $100,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;To raise $90,000, in its inception, is a phenomenal result,&#8221; says Ryan. &#8220;I look forward to Kindle Pursuit growing into something as impactful as the larger fundraisers.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thank you!
