Short-term Effects
Cancer and its treatments may produce physical
changes in the patient such as nausea, vomiting and
fatigue. These changes affect energy levels and the
young person’s ability to take part in school and
activities. Other changes, which are usually
temporary, include lowered
immune system,
hair loss, nausea,
weight loss or gain, loss of appetite, mood swings,
facial bloating and distortion, problems with
coordination, difficulties with fine and gross motor
control, muscle aches and weakness, poor self-image
and body marks resembling tattoos, which identify
the site of radiation therapy. |
